POKOTABI / Nakameguro Yakiniku Togyumon
中目黒焼肉 登牛門
Located in the basement of a building right outside Nakameguro Station, Nakameguro Yakiniku Togyumon offers an inviting yakiniku dinner, featuring rich egg-topped Wagyu yukke, fragrant prime tongue, ribeye yaki-suki, and ice cream finished with aged mirin.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Stepping down into the basement of Nakameguro Arena leaves the bustle of the station plaza behind, revealing a calm, adult setting finished in chic tones. At the tables of Nakameguro Yakiniku Togyumon, an ideal opening order is the signature Togyumon Yukke, made possible by the restaurant's permit to handle raw Wagyu beef. Breaking the rich egg yolk over the rounded mound of raw beef coaxes out a smooth, natural sweetness and depth, making for a luxurious start to the meal.
For the early stages of grilling, diners often turn to the special thick-cut tongue or premium tongue, which offer a satisfying chew while remaining remarkably tender. Searing the surface quickly over the wire grid brings out a fragrant crust and releases savory juices seasoned with salt sauce, pairing naturally with beer or highballs. Another popular plate is the fresh superior liver, cut with clean, sharp edges; dipped in sesame oil and lightly grilled, it is praised for its rich, milky depth free of gaminess.
The midpoint highlight is the ribeye yaki-suki, featuring broad slices of beef finished rapidly over the grill. Caught at the exact moment the fat begins to melt, the meat is swirled through special sauce and egg yolk, releasing a mellow richness that practically calls for white rice. Limited-quantity cuts such as the special Wagyu harami (skirt), prized for its fine marbling and concentrated juices, alongside Matsusaka beef lean loin, make comparing the distinct qualities of each cut an ongoing pleasure.
To round out the meal after grilling, the kitchen offers half-size options including sesame cold noodles—thin chilled noodles coated in a rich sesame sauce—as well as the classic cold noodles served in a clear, refreshing broth. The standout sweet at the end is the salted mascarpone ice cream paired with 10-year aged mirin. Pouring the deep, aromatic aged mirin, reminiscent of kuromitsu sugar syrup, over the lightly salted ice cream creates an unexpected harmony that leaves the palate feeling clean.
Beyond ordering cut-by-cut from the à la carte menu, set courses featuring appetizers, yaki-suki, fillet steak, and all-you-can-drink options cater well to dates and small gatherings. Because tables often fill up from evening into the night, booking ahead once dinner plans are set is strongly recommended.
